Endabuse aims to improve the safety and lives of domestic abuse victims in the UK by collecting, producing, distributing and sharing knowledge, ideas, education, information, resources, strategies and inspirations.

Endabuse has been developed to combat the decimating effects of cuts to services throughout the UK, and to ensure that those who have suffered abuse still have the advice and information they need in order to live their lives to the fullest.

Endabuse has been developed to provide up to date training and support to professionals in relation to adult and child domestic and sexual abuse. With the cuts in budgets almost all local Authorities have cut back on funding for specialist domestic abuse services. Agencies report that they are being forced to attempt to provide support and advice to victims from within their own service with little or no training, putting themselves and the victim at risk of serious injury or death. If we are to eradicate domestic abuse then we need to ensure that we are all working to support the victim and their children and get them to a safe place. Lack of understanding in relation to perpetrator behaviours can lead us unwittingly re-victimise the victim. As professionals it is our responsibility to ensure that we understand the choices victims make and how the behaviours of perpetrators impact on these choices.

Facts and Figures

Although domestic abuse is chronically under reported, research estimates it:

• accounts for 16% of all violent crime

• will affect 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men in their lifetime

• 77% of victims of domestic abuse are women

• has more repeat victims than any other crime (on average there will have been 35 assaults before a victim calls the police)

• on average, two women are killed every week by a current or former male partner

• one incident of domestic abuse is reported to the police every minute
